Plugging local activism into the wider context of alternative finance – with local currencies at its heart – the Independent Money Alliance links those of us working on the high-street frontline to academics, think tanks, pressure groups and political activists seeking to redefine the way we live and work with money.
The IMA is a place to share and to imagine, a space in which disparate approaches to the modern monetary malaise may be investigated and combined.
It is also a practical resource – an open-source kit that can fast-track local currency development and help boost campaigning momentum and sustainability.
Previously the Guild of Independent Currencies, the IMA was created in 2014 by Bristol Pound CIC to help other groups to launch their own independent currencies, supporting them through shared knowledge and technology, best practice and with anything else they may need.
We have regular conferences and meet ups to share information, including Bristol in November 2014, Exeter in June 2015, and Liverpool in April 2016, they never fail to useful and invigorating for those attending.
Our next conference will be in Glasgow in the autumn of 2017, if you want to be informed as soon as more details are available then sign up to our mailing list.
